About This Program

Hendra virus disease is a rare but severe zoonotic illness caused by Hendra virus, a paramyxovirus first identified in 1994 during an outbreak in Hendra, a suburb of Brisbane, Australia. The virus is harbored naturally by Australian flying foxes (fruit bats of the genus Pteropus) and can be transmitted to horses through contact with bat secretions. Humans can then acquire infection through close contact with infected horses or their bodily fluids, making it an occupational hazard primarily for veterinarians, horse trainers, and stable workers. Infection in humans can cause severe respiratory illness or encephalitis and carries a high fatality rate. Although human cases remain uncommon, the virus is classified as a biosafety level 4 pathogen due to its lethality and the absence of widely available treatments. This program includes frequencies that have been associated with Hendra virus disease in traditional Rife frequency literature. This is an informational catalog entry only, and anyone with concerns about infectious disease or related health conditions should consult a qualified healthcare provider.
